Josh Elwell

Josh Elwell is a highly experienced Puppet Director and Lead Puppeteer whose expertise lies in the realm of live action screen puppetry. Over 2 decades Josh’s work has spanned some leading companies like, The Jim Henson Company, Children’s BBC, Disney and Blink Industries. He has worked as a puppeteer on award winning well known series including, Dr Who, Dark Crystal - Age of Resistance, and Strange Hill High. More recently was lead puppeteer on the cult Channel 4 series, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.

As well as working on many TV and film series Josh has an extensive catalog of short film productions including various music videos and advertising campaigns. On these projects, Josh always enjoys meeting the client’s needs through close collaboration with other artists, animators and crew to create a distinctive visual tone. 

His background as both a maker and performer gives him both a keen eye for aesthetics as well as strong understanding of character and narrative. He particularly enjoys working with the surreal, comical and even slightly dark nature of puppetry to produce striking and atmospheric results.
